Baby vampire Tara

Why did Tara stop her intention of feeding (and possibly killing) the woman in S5E3? Was it because she saw her own refection as a vampire in the windshield or was it b/c of the cross or both ?

We know Tara hated everything to do with vampires, Sookie and Laffy making her one and herself as one. She did try to kill herself a little later. And we know she was hungry that night as a newborn . Yet she resisted her urge to feed.

Bill told Sookie (S2) about being a new vampire: “When a vampire’s as new as Jessica is, she has no humanity. She’s in the grips of an overwhelming number of transformations. There will be times when she cannot control even a single impulse. Believe me, she has many”. Certainly that suits well for Bill. He didn’t resist any of his urges for decades.

Roman told almost the same thing to Steve:” Don’t be nervous, Steve. I was new once. I get it. All I wanted to do was feed, fuck, and kill. It took me centuries to realize that humans aren’t just talking meat.”

Jessica was also always hungry, and four seasons later still can’t control her impulses and all she wants to do is kill, eat and f**k .

Tara told Sookie in S4: “I’ve always considered myself to be an atheist”. Was it b/c of her mother? I could well believe it to be true. So in this case the cross didn’t have any effect on Tara’s decision? So something else?

Or was there another reason that Tara was zoomed in with that cross on her forehead. I was always wondering whether it had something to do with her becoming a part of Godric/Eric bloodline. And we know so many symbols of Christianity connected to Godric and Eric.

Excellent points.  Tara has amazing control, considering she is a baby vamp, but I would like to think that the control comes from her bloodline.   Nora had less control when she saw Sookie for the first time, but she has only Godric’s blood.  Tara seems to have benefited from inheriting both Eric and Pam’s blood as well as Godric’s.

Tara is certainly more in control of her impulses that your average baby vamp. We could speculate it’s the blood, and perhaps it’s part of it. But it’s also possibly Tara herself. She is an incredibly strong person. Internally strong. She’s been dealt so much trouble in her life, and she emerged with her sanity intact.

I don’t know if seeing that cross and her own reflection gave her any religious considerations. Perhaps, simpler than that, it reminded her of her mother, the queen of losing control. And the one thing Tara always feared more than vampires: Turning into her mother. “I am the thing that I hate” isn’t only vampire-connected. She was probably seeing her drunk mother, out of control, violent, ripping through the defenseless around her just to get to her next fix.

While being turned wasn’t of Jessica’s choosing, she wasn’t subjected to the psychotic vampire behavior that Tara was.And that may have played a big part in why she didn’t feed on, and didn’t kill that girl, who looked remarkably like her best friend, that nearly died at the hands of one(Bill). That’s a good point about her mother, there have been a number of monsters that have been in her life, from Lettie Mae to Maryann then Franklin. What she sees in the reflection outweighs her need to feed, and she is tough cookie. The vampire bloodline could have something to do with her self control also.

Tara is an excellent example of what we in Sweden call maskrosbarn (dandelion child). The word comes from the way dandelions seems to prosper regardless of soil, sun, drought or rain; it even breaks through asphalt and prosper. But research has shown that these children all have something in common, someone that sees them and gives them part of the security their family didn’t. In Tara’s case, it is the Stackhouses and her cousin Lafayette.

I’m so glad that she at least ended up in a vampire family that takes care of one another. Perhaps that can change her views about all vampires being bad?

I think those views have changed already. :)

“Dendelion Child.” I like that. It’s avery apt metaphor for resilience.

Turning into a vampire is Tara’s worst nightmare right after turning into her mother. Seeing her own reflection in the mirror reminds Tara of who she is and who she has fought her entire life not to be—a selfish, violent monster. Vampires are who they were when they were turned, and Tara has always been a much stronger person that even she anticipated. But it wasn’t easy not feeding on that girl. We see in the gif just how hungry a baby vamp is, how much blood one requires. Tara probably cleaned out Sam’s supply of Tru Blood.

hmmm I wonder what’s he’s staring at? for sure it’s not her face lol

Ha! I think she managed to cover her front area before he could get a real peek.I’d say there is a bit of a tit for tat thing going on here, Sookie walked in on him not only buck naked, but doing the business with Yvetta. And instead of turning away and saying something to the tune of: “I need to talk you urgently, Bill has gone missing, I will wait in your office” She just stood there and interrogated him. nerves of steel that girl has, with all the naked flesh on display just inches from her.Of course his brain became scrambled at the sight of her, and decided to act the fool. :)
